In addition to tho police changes mentioned yesterday, there is little doubt that Inspectors Shearman (Auckland), Aitchison Weldon (Dunedin), and Buckley (Timaru) will also retire from the service. |The information re Jhspeotor Weldon'a retirement is probably incorrect, he having today received instructions to take over the Lawrence district. Mr Weldpn's field of oporations has therefore been enlarged by tho amalgamation of the Lawrence and Otago.districts.—Ed. E.S.]

The .telegram published in the 'Daily Telegraph' this evening announcing the 1 intended removal of Inspector Bullen has : caused p. feeling of much anger throughout the town,' and it is certain to do so alii through tjhe district. With the amalgamation qf districts, requiring ' the re-, duotion in the niimUer b'f inspectors, no; fault is to bo found i .but where, i as is here, there is do alteration of boun-j daries, it is feared amongst the strongest 1 of Government supporters that a good many; are being sacrificed for some reason unknown. The news spread like wildfire, and nothing but indignation Was expressed ati the intended enforced retrenchment qf an efficient and f?ealouu officer in the prime of life. Many think the news cannot be true, because Buch a change would be not only unwise from a departmental view, but ro' irritating to one of the strongest Ministerial' strongholds in the colony.
