THE KAIKORAI SCHOOL DISPUTE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Might I ask your numerous readers who have perused Mr Carcw’s lengthy judgment n: Kaikomi School, and your leading article in to-night’s Star, to refrain for a short time from passing judgment on the matter, until the yvhole of the evidence taken at the inquiry-especially what was given by the inspectors—is before them. This, I am led to believe, will be done soon, and then the public will bo in a position to form an opinion for themselves. And might I point out to you, sir, that in your leading article every inspector’s report adverse to Mr M'Lauchlan is quoted from, and no others. You commence with the report of 1879, and then skip two years and give ]BB2 down to 1887, omittmg all reference to reports previous to 1879—those of 1880 and 1881; also the report of Mr Taylor’s inspection visit in 1887. You state that the examinations held in July, 1887, were not satisfactory. The published results of that examination allowed that 85 per cent, of the pupils presented passed the standards; and, if that result is considered unsatisfactory by the Education Board and yourself, it quite satisfied the parties more directly interested— viz., the parents of the pupils and the School Committee.—l am, etc., Fairplat. Dunedin, February 17.
