THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS.

The Centennial regatta, which took place on the Parramatta course yesterday, was a brilliant success. The day was very fine, with a fresh breeze blowing. The Governor and party, accompanied by most of the distinguished visitors in Sydney, were on board the flagship. The Senior Four oared Outrigger Race was von by the Sydney Rowing Club. The Sculling Race, in wager boats, was won by Peter Kemp (Hawkesbury), W. Hearn (New Zealand) 2, C. Nelson (Sydney) 3. The international band contest commenced yesterday. A large number of bands are competing. Sydney was again brilliantly illuminated last night, but a strong wind seriously interfered with the illuminations. (Received January 28, 1888, at 1.50 a.m.) At the regatta to-day the yacht race was won by Milson’s Era by 20min. Four others started, but the Era was nt the scratch. During the day a number of boats capsized or swamped,' but none of the accidents were attended with fatal consequences. The harbor illuminations were a grand spectacle. The bay was lit up with the electric light shown from the squadron and other vessels, and there was a continuous soar of rockets, which were fired from all points in the harbor. (Received January 28, 1888, at 1.50 p.m.) An industrial demonstration took place today. A large procession, in which twentyseven societies took part, represented all the industries in the Colony. Lord Carijugton laid the foundation stone of the Trades’ Hall, and at the conclusion of tho ceremony the procession proceeded to Prince Alfred Park and Exhibition Building. A grand gala is now being held. The Wesleyan Conference have decided to establish a Centennial Thanksgiving Fund of LUO.OOO, and in one hour subscriptions in aid of it amounting to L 7,200 were collected.
