JUBILEE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Jubilee Horticultural Society was held in the Coffee Palace on Saturday evening last, and was attended by about twenty members; Mr C. Sonntag, the vice-president, in the chair.

A highly interesting paper was read by Mr A. Arroll on 'The Florist's Flower." The writer described how the character of a flower was changed or improved by culture, A vote of thanks to Mr Arroll for his able paper was unanimously accorded.

A number of beautiful specimens were placed on the table. Mr H. Matthews, of Hawthorn Hill nursery, exhibited a fine collection of tuberous begonia blooms, some of which were of immense size, and also two specimens of the beautiful Hoya Bella. Mr T. Ireland, of Union street, showed a magnificent Amyrillh grandi-Jlom, and Mr J. L. Gillies contributed three exhibits— A Hum Xeapolitanum, Bizard tulip (Gloria Jifundi), and Dkphcus hybrida splendens, which were also much admired.
