Mrs Jeffries will probibly die (says the ' Pall Mall Gazette') in gaol. She is now seventy-two years of age, suffering from diabetes; and on Monday Mr Edlin, after fining her L4OO, sent her to prison for six months, without hard labor. We wonder what the kings, princes, peers, and officers who found the old lady so convenient for the gratification of their pleasures, think of her now ! Probably, if the truth be told, they never spare a thought for their fallen flesh broker. Yet so far as she deserves to be there, much more are they entitled to share cells by her side. They supplied tho gold with which she tempted others to ruin. She was but the go-between ; they were the principals. They go forth scot free, honored by men and women, to swagger in the foretop of the State; she, despised, broken, and dying, is hurried off to end her days in gaol. Success.—lndustry and economy are indispensible requisites to success ; but they are not the only ones. A man may be active and over-economical, but he must possess good judgment, or his industry and economy will be of no avail.
