HIBERNIAN SOCIETY'S SPORTS.

The annual sports of the above Society were held on the Caledonian Grounds on Boxing Day. The Society marched in procession, headed by the Kaikorai Band, to the grounds about mid-day, and were soon bußy preparing for carrying ont their programme of athletic and other sports, which would doubtless have attracted a larger assemblage had the weather proved more propitious. The attendance during the best part of the day was about 1,500.? Every member did his best to make the day enjoyable, and with a view to make it particularly so for the young people several extra races were provided for weir especial benefit. The Estrian events were Keenly contested ; re take leave to, say that Noel's general at the s^aji^g r tolerated to too tfceat tm ami BBmttd moat decidedly, have incurred a penally lor his c'cmtintied attempts 1 feget away before the fire' of the pistol. It will bo noticed that three of the competitors (including the winner) had already competed for money prizes, and consequently were not entitled to enter for this race. So far, however, no protest has been entered against M'Queen's right to the first prize. Burk soon assumed the lead, and the positions thereafter remained much the same until the third round, when Wareham passed Bnrk. M'Queen soon afterwards assumed the lead, and maintained it to the end. Bnrk, nearing home, spurted, and passed Wareham, but his efforts to get even with the winner were unsuccessful.
