GOOD TEMPLARS’ PICNIC.

Theiifth annual picnic and sports of the above body were held in Fargie’s paddock, North-east Valley, yesterday, the attendance being much larger than at any of ’ the previous gatherings. The Caversham Band, which led a procession from the Choral Hall to the grounds, played selections during the day, also a number of dance items, the young folk taking advantage of the latter and “ tripping it lightly on the award.” The Committee worked hard to make the affair a success, and al the items on the programme were ran off in good time and without a hitch, with the exception of the Pony Trot, the judge’s decision in this race being adversely criticised by the owners of the unplaced horses. The following are the results: — Maiden Rags, 120 yards.—First prize, 16s; second, 10s. Ten entries—JLMaolean 1, J. Milne 2 Boys’ Rags. 800 yards.-First prize, 10s; second, 5s Eleven entries—J. Muir 1, T. Godfrey 2. Handicap Hdbdlb Rack, 850 yards.—First ptize, 30b * second 16s. Eight entries—J. Evans and T. Mul’bare ran a dead heat, and divided the stakes. Yoono ladies* Handicap Rack, 100 yards.—First nrise brooch and earrings; second, locket. Seven entries—Miss F. Carter 1, Miss M. M’Outoheon 2. Jovkhilb Tbmplabs’ Handioap Rack. 200 yards.— First prize, trophy: second, trophy. Twelve entries —B. Adams 1, J. ijlbune 2. Onk-Milb Walkin'# Rack (handicap).—First prize, 1.2 3a; second, LI is. Ingram second; lut a protest_having been entered before the judge gave his decision, the prizes were not awarded, and the matter will be considered at the first meeting of the Committee. Turks- legged Rack, 260 yards.—First prize, 10s; second, 6s. Five entrles-Godlrey and M'Ara 1, Muir and Harrison 2. Pont Trot, about two mito?, for sweep cf 10a each, with 89s added.—First prize two-third?, and second one-third of total stakes. Seven entries—Kettle 1, Our Pony 2. The ring was far too small for this class cf sport, and we would advise the Committee to omit t)i!s item at their next meeting. - Hale-mile Handicap Rack. First prize, 30s; second, 16s. Ten entries—G. Hutchinson 1, J. T. Jarvis 2. Hutchinson started from scratch, and walked in for the last thirty yards. Bovs’ Sack Rack, 200 yards.-First price, 10s, second, 6s. Seven entries—R. Macdonald 1, K. ° Ladiks’ Handicap Walking Rack, 440 yards —First prize, box of tea; second, pair of vases ; third, satchel. Eleven entries—Miss L. Guy 1, Miss U. Guy 2, Mrs Hogg 3. Only four finished, proving that ladies, though good talkers, ate poor walkers. Chasing tuk Gbkasy Pig.—Klne entries. This event caused much amusement, J, Anderson being declared the winner after an exciting ohaso. . CONSQfcATioN Handicap, 250 yards.—First prize, 203; geomd, 10s. Six entries-S. Monro I,D. Wadsworth2. There were also races for toys for children of both sexes between each event, the entries for which were legion.
