Kawatlii arrived at the Rattray street wharf at 9a m. yesterday. She left Wellington at 6 p.tn. on the 24th inst., and had strong N W. winds with heavy cross seas during her passage down the coast. All the shipping in the harbor wore gaily decorated in honor of the Christinas festival yesterday. _ The steamers Ohau and Gerda ran excursion trips to Mooraki yesterday; while the Koranul, Beautiful Star, and Invercargill (all loaded with passengers) wont down to the Maori Kaik and outside the Heads. The s.s. Takapuna sailed yesterday afternoon for Northern ports. The threatening appearance of the weather this morning diterred many from proceeding to the Kaik" The Invercargill was the only steamer that succeeded in getting any passengers at all. None of the other steamers left the wharf. The steamers Shag, lona, and Kakanui ran excursion trips between Dunedin and Fort Chalmers yesterday. The ship Nelson was towed down from Dunedin to Port Chalmers this morning by the tugs Koputai and Plucky. . The s.s. Ohau left Auckland at _8 a.m, of the 22nd inst., had strong to moderate variable winds ond f«ir weather, and arrived at Dunedin at 4 a.m. on Monday. The Hauroto was hauled into the graving dock this morning. The s.s. Kawatiii commenced discharging cargo at the Rattray street wharf this morning. The barque Helen Denny has about 300 tons of cargo to put out. The ss, Waihora arrived at the Rattray street wharf at 6.45 a.m. to-day. She left Melbourne at 6 p.m of the 21st insf.. an I passed Flinders Island at 1.80p.m next day; hd fresh N.E winds and beam seas, and reached the Biufl at 7.30 p.m. on the 25th inst,; left again at 4 p.m. next day, passed Nugget Point at 9pm,; entered Taiaroa Holds at 8 40 a.m. to-day, and came up to the wharf as above.
