Below will bo found a summary of tho special announcements for Christmastide in the way of meetings and amusements : From 6.30 to 8 the Engineers' Band plays in the Octagon to-night. Musical Bervioe at Trinity Weßleyan Church at nine this evening, when a good selection of carols will be interspersed with selections from popular oratorios. Carol service this evening at eleven o'clock in St. Paul's Church. The programme, whioh appeara elsewhere, promises to afford a treat. A concert will be held in the Lyceum Hall to-morrow night, Sir Robert Stout in the chair. The regatta at Port Chalmers on Monday is sure to be a success if the weather keeps fine. Special trains run from town at reduced rates. The Kakanui will follow each race during the day. This is tho best way to get a good view. The launch Kate will ran according to an extra time-table on Monday, communicating with Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Broad Bay, and Portobello.
The steamer Gerda has been chartered by the Fire Brigade to make an excursion to Moeraki on Monday. The Koranui and Beautiful Star run to tho Eaik on Monday and Tuesday. Tho Invercargill, as usual, will be ready to convey passengers to tho Eaik on Monday and Tuesday. The Shag will make trips to Broad Bay and Portebello on Monday and Tuesday. Wakari Rides' annual pionio and sports in Eraser's paddock, Kaikorai, on Monday. Tho Masons have organised a picnic to be held at Blanket Bay on Monday. The Good Templars are sparing no pains to ensure the success of their sports, which are to be held on Monday, close to Mr Glendining's residence in the North-east Valley. The Hibernian sports take place on Monday at the Caledonian Grounds. Sixteen entries have been received for the two principal running handicaps} while the wrestling, walking, and dancing events have also filled up well. Tho principal attraction, however, will no doubt prove to be the hurling match, whith has been arranged between two fifteens of picked men. This game has never been played in public in Dunedin before, and is of a most exciting character. Several players are coming long distances to take part in the match. The Greenwood family make their first appearance in Dunedin at the Lyceum on Monday. Miss Carrio Swain and her company also open on Slonday, and we are asked to mention that the plan of reserved seats will be open on Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at tho oftico under the Grand Hotel, Princes street. On Tuesday there is tho Freethought Association's picnic at Sawyers Bay; also The North-east Valley Band sports ; and A limelight exhibition of pictures will be given in the Choral Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
