SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.
At a meeting of the Otago Cricket Association, held in Wain's Hotel last evening, a letter was read from the secretary of the Canterbury Association concerning tho dates of the interprovincial match. It was arranged to begin tho match on January 27. Messrs Wyicks, Collinson, and Kennedy were appointed a Match Committee for the season. It was resolved that a match eleven a-side be played on January 2 and 3 between teams chosen from clubs playing on the north grounds and south grounds; Messrs W, Snelton and Carson being selectors for the north , team and Messrs Drabble and W. J. Moore for the south. The following cricket teams will visit Dunedin next week, playing matches with Carisbrook, Phoenix, and the Grange Clubs, namely—lnvercargill, Addington, Capulet, and Oamaru. " Old Cricketer " writes:—Hearing there is going to be a North v. South cricket match. I think it would not be a bad idea for the Selection Committee to arrange a North v. South junior match on the same days, on the same ground, and same time, which would give our junior players a show to distinguish themselves. Our own correspondent wires that at the Clyde races yesterday the Maiden Plate was won by Clara; the Midsummer Handicap by The Bard, with Captain Cook second and Bagshot third; the Trot by Present Times ; the Hack Selling Race by Gregory, who was sold for L 2 4; the President's Handicap by Cheap Jack, with The Bard second and Bagshot third.
