(Received Deoember 22, 1887, at 2.16 p.m.) Reports have been received at Zanzibar from the Albert Nyanza country which state that Stanley, with the expedition for the relief of Emin Bey, reaohed Wadelal early in September, after undergoing great privations. ACCIDENT IN THE CRICKET FIELD. MELBOURNE, December 22. Bates, a member of Vernon's cricket team, met with a severe accident yesterday whilst playing in a match on the Melbourne ground. While in the act of bowling, he was struck over the eye by a ball hit by Newham, who was practising on the next net. The doctors are hopeful that the sight will not be permanently injured. PRINCE WILHELM'S OPINION. BERLIN, December 20. (Received Deoember 22,1887, at 1.16 p.m.) The usual presentation of Christmas gifts to the Hussar regiments were made to-day by his Highness Prince Wilhelm. Upon the conclusion of the ceremony of distributing the presents, the Prince delivered an address to the troops, in which, alluding to the present state of European affairs, he said that the times were grave and the future uncertain. A London firm has offered to subscribe L2OO if Victoria will organise an Antarotic exploring fund. The Rev. DrO'Dwyer, Bishop of Limerick, has condemned boycotting and the Plan of Campaign as bad and sinful. LONDON, December 21. The reported attempt on the life of the Czar is officially denied at St. Petersburg. The personal estate of the late Sir William Macarthur in England has been proved at L 120.000. By his will, deceased bequeathed L 60.000 to charity. Shares in tho Western Australian Mortgage and Agency Company are being allotted. The Berlin ' Post' estimates that the Russian force on the frontier exceeds the German and Austrian by 171 battalions, 100 squadrons, and 45 batteries.
