HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

The meeting yesterday was attended by Messrs Houghton (chairman), Isaac, Clark, Robin, Miller, Green, and Dr Hislop. The Finance Committee reported that the Government had paid the subsidy due on the donation of L2OO received from the Otago University and other donxtions, amounting to L 266 2s od. Salaries and maintenance accounts for the month, amounting to L 625 0s lOd, were submitted for approval and passed for payment. The bank pass-book showed a credit balance of L 1.514 lis Id. The following letter was received from a member of the Female Refuge Committee: —"Feeling the urgent need there is for some speedy settlement of a home for receiving lying-in patients of all classes, I venture to appeal to you in the matter. Four cases have come under my notice this week. Three of them were sent to the hospital, but, until the day of the meeting of the House Committee, could get no definite answer as to where they might find shelter during their timo of trouble. The fourth was relieved by private charity, as her case was urgent. I received a letter from Miss Brownlie (the present tenant of the house in Hanover street known as Leith House, and occupied by the Salvation Army as a Rescue Home) to the effect that she could promise to give up that house on or about the Ist January, 1888; and as all who know the house think it would be a suitable building for a 'maternity,' I would feel greatly obliged if the Trustees would take the matter into consideration and communicate to the Female Refuge Committee the result of their deliberations. The Committee would also like to confer with the Trustees, or any one of them they may appoint, at an early date relative to this subject."—lt was resolved that consideration of the letter be deferred until next meeting of the Trustees, and that the secretary write in the meantime to the authorities in the different centres of population and ask them what provision is madefor lying-in patients in their respective districts. The following were elected the honorary medical staff for the ensuing year:—Drs Batchelor, John Macdonald, Lindo Ferguson (specialists), Brown, Colquhoun, Stenhouße, Gordon Macdonald, Roberts, and Hocken.
