LAND BOARD.

An adjourned meeting was held this morning, being attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (Chief .Commissioner), Logan, Dallas, Clark and Duncan.

The business was to deal with certain runs, consideration of which was deferred from yesterday. The Board considered the matter of dealing with Runs' 226 A b c and D, Highfield district, at present held by Mr Pogson, the leases of which expire in March, 1889. Some time since Commissioners M'Kenzie and Duncan recommended that the country containing these runs should be opened up as small grazing runs. The Board thea approved of that recommendation, but now have doubts as to the present time being suitable for opening up much land under this system, pastoral interests being sq depressed, and the small-run system would entail thfe country being locked up for twenty-one years. Should the Government concur with the Board in this view, the Board would recommend the runsbeing re-leased as ordinary pastoral runs for three years. Runs-171, 1710, D, F, and section 17,. block 3, Nenthorn, held by Messrs Orbell Bros., Waikouaiti districtrThe Board decided to recommend the Governor-in-Counoil to offer for pastoral leasing as one run the Runs 171, 171 d, o, r, Q for ten years, and Runs 171 a and bm one run for the same period. r As regards Runs 218, 218 a, the Board, ■having received a petition asking that these, ntns should be opened as small grazing runs', decided to forward petition to Wellington for Government consideration. The Board, however, expressed doubt as to the eoontry being suitable for the purpose asked <for|in the petition. In the event of Government deciding to offer runs for pastoral leasing, the Board recommend that runs be offered as one for ten years. • : ; ' i--> Run , 51a.—After further inquiry, -the Board recommend this run for re-lease, as* if the south-west portion were opened, under the small grazing run system, as the Bora at one time thought of recommending,,it appears that the remainder of the run would not be taken up, as, it is only suitable for summer occupation.—The run was tecommended to be leased for seven years. . Run 217b, Waikouaiti district: Joseph Cowie Nichols.—Recommended to be released for ten years. ... Runs 238 c, 238 d, 238e, 238f, Alexandra district: James Cowan.—Recommended to be re-leased for ten years.
