CHURCH BAZAAR
The Congregation of the South Dunedin Presbyterian Church open a bazaar to-night in the Garrison Hall. The object is not fco reduce or extinguish a liability, but to enable the members of the Church to keep out of debt, for it has been decided that the new building shall not be started until the necessary funds are in hand. We this afternoon paid a visit to the hall, and, though the arrangements were at the time neoessarily incomplete, it was evident that the gnow wjU tys a very effective one when the doors are dgea to the public. The refreshmsnt sfcalj, "whfoh" occupies the southern wall, between the £wo ir6nt doors, will be presided over by the ladies of St. Andrew's Church; on the left hand side asi one enters are stalls managed by the ladies of First Church and Knox Churoh j while on i(he other eidp of the hall will be found, the two stalls provided by the ladies of the congregation mpre immediately interested. If is beyoad o»r powje'r to describd ]th*e varied goods on sale in these four stalls : suffice' Jt to say that to the inexperienced in these matters the articles appear to be well assorted and creditable specimens of fancy work. A gipsy tent takes up one of the corners of the floor; and other attractions are a shooting gallery," a galvanic battery, a, weighing machine, and a printing press at which'visiting bards will be worked off to order. In the centre of the floor is a very
fine flower stall, and a novelty in connection j with this is a fountain which will throw a spray five feet high. The galleries and walla of the hall have besn tastefully hung with ferns and flags. These and the other decorations have been arranged under the direction of Mr J. L. Gillies. The opening address this evening will bo delivered by Mr Keith Ramsay ; the Rev. Dr Stuart being in the chair. The First Church choir will sing several anthems, and the Dunedin Amateur Orchestral Association, under Mr Wishart's leadership, will perforin selections at intervals. Entertainments will be given in the band-room tomorrow evening; for tonight, all the proceedings will take place in tiio main hall.
