RETRENCHMENT.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,—Now, while the Ministry are busy with their Retrenchment scheme and intend cutting down the salaries of all Civil servants receiving over Ll5O a-year, I ask is it just to the present servants, now doing the work of those pensioned off (and at smaller salaries), that they should be the only sufferers in the present crisis, while thfeir predecessors are receiving full pensions, and some large ones too ? So far as I understand, their pensions are not to be touched. I would suggest: If an Act in one case can be amended, why should it not be amended in the other, and the proposed reductions made to affect both past and present servants alike ? So far as I have seen, this matter has not been touched upon. Trusting that some abler pen than mine will take the matter up—l am, etc., FaibPlay.
