THE ITALIAN EXPEDITION TO MASSOWAH. ROME, October 16. The first Italian expedition designed for service at Massowah sails early in November, In consequence of the increased hostile pre. partitions by Abyssinia, it has been decided to despatch a second expedition to Massowah, and accordingly 6,000 troops have received orders to prepare to follow shortly. THE LONDON UNEMPLOYED. LONDON, October 16. Further threatening demonstrations by the unemployed took place on Friday. Several persons wore caps of liberty, and the “Marseillaise” was sung. The Lord Mayor refused to receive a deputation from the men, and was hooted by the mob. A crowd congregated outside the ‘ Standard newspaper office and hooted and groaned for some time. The police seized the red and black flags carried by the unemployed and dispersed the gathering. A renewal of the demonstration took place yesterday. A large crowd assembled in Trafalgar Square, where fierce harangues were delivered by a number of agitators. A procession was formed, which paraded the city, but was less uproarious than on the previous day. Strong complaints have been made against the stoppage of traffic and business owing to these processions being tolerated by the authorities. THE CONGREGATIONAL JUBILEE. LONDON, October 16. A QUEENSLAND MOVEMENT. LONDON, October 16. A dinner was held at the Criterion Hotel i last night by a number of Queensland colonists, at which Sir J. F. Garrick, AgentGeneral, presided, and over sixty gentlemen Were present; and it was decided that a similar dinner should be held annually, MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. LONDON, October 14. Australian tallow: Average quality is unchanged at 22s 6d for beef, and 23s 6d for mutton. New Zealand frozen mutton, of good quality, is quoted at 41 per lb. Kauri gum (best selected, transparent) is selling at Ll3.

[Special to Press Association.] LONDON, October IG. (Reosived October 17,1887, at 12.18 p.m.) Sir West Ridgeway, Under-Secretary for Ireland, and Mr Balfour are at present visiting Dublin. The search made for the gunboat Wasp, which is supposed to have been lost on the homeward voyage froin Singapore, has proved fruitless. Mr Chamberlain, speaking at Port Rush, said that Home Rule would mean ruin for the masses. He also stated that Irish legislation should provide for cultivators becoming the pawners of thp soil, which should be specially vajued for purchase. The success of his visit has irritated and disquieted the Libcrajs and the Parnellites. Sir Vincent Barrington is renewing his efforts to induce France to be officially represented at the Melbourne Exhibition. The Treasury agrees to pay a subsidy of L 90.000 on the Australian mails, and asks Australia to contribute LSQ.OOO. The ' Globe' states that the Australian auxiliary fleet will consist of the Archer, Brisk, Cossack, Amphion, and Lizard, all new vessels, the three first-named being torpedo cruisers. In addition to these, two fast cruisers and four smaller vessels will be kept as a reserve for Australia. Docks and a ship-yard will be erected at Sydney, and the necessary machinery and appliances have already been ordered. The Congo State is "about to send an expedition to reponquer Stanley Falls, which arc now in the hands of Arab slavers. General Ferron proposes to form five new regiments. The Union Bank has been requested to suggest to the Sydney Corporation the propriety of inscribing its fast loans, ' Westgarth's Circular' urges their inscription, which would have the effect of extending their demand and improving their value. The sleepers on the Arkansas Railway have been wilfully tatr pared with, with a view to wrecking the train carrying President Cleveland and his wife. The attempt was discovered in time. Messrs Dillon and o ; Brien address a meeting at Woodford to-day, and numbers of police and military are massing in the village. The ' Chronicle' states that the Crown Prince of Germany is in a precarious conditions, and Dr Morell Mackenzie's experiments have been unsuccessful. The Prince refuses to submit to further operations. The report of the Bank of South Australia states that the declining value of mqney has slackened the demand in the colonies, and the directors are not 'sanguine of any immediate improvement. The reserve fund has not been increased. Mrs Anderson, an Australian soprano, has appeared at Brussels, where she created a furore.
