SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the Albany street School Committee was held in the schoolbouse on Thursday evening last, when, there were present—Messrs Treseder (chairman), Mac Lean, Eggers, Hunter, Smith, Sinclair, and Richmond. The head-master reported the average attendance for the month as— Boys, 360; girls, 334; total, 694. The Police Department reported six children in the district not attending school, and after discussing the mode of procedure under the compulsory clauses of the Education Act, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Smith, to forward the police report to the Education Board to Tbe dealt with by them.-It was intimated that the proceeds of the lecture delivered by Dr Hislop on the 30th ult. amounted to Ll2 4s, and the thanks of the Committee to Dr Hislop were, orderedto be recorded in the minutes.-Mr Ferguson in the preparation of a cantata, entitled "The Musical iEsop," which it was intended to produce at the annual enterta.nSntT and also that Mr Thomas Fogo had Presented two silver medals to be awa r d ed g he duces of the Bchool.-The Visiting Committee submitted their monthly report, which was considered exceedingly satisfactory* The usual meeting of the Union street School Committee last evening was attended by Messrs Mathews (chairman), Jackson, Drew, Swan, Gillies, and Wright.—The head-master reported the attendance to be : Boys, 382 ; girls, 325-total, 707. Sundry repairs were authorised to be carried out by the chairman and Mr Swan. A subcommittee, consisting of Messrs M'Laren, Drew, and Swan were appointed to arrange a concert for the prize fund.—Accounts were passed for payment for L 7 14s. The monthly meeting of the Macandrew road School Committee was held last evening There were present Messrs Chetwin (chairman), Hogg, Ings. Henderson, Collin, Woods, and Rev. W. G. Parsonson (clerk). It was reported that a harmonium had been purchased at a cost of LI 5. The Holidays Committee reported granting a half-holiday on 26th September. It was agreed to call for tenders for repairs to painting and papering at the head-masters'house, cost not to exceed L 5. The report of attendance showed a total average for the month of 553, and for the quarter of 569. Leave of absence was granted to Mr Spencer for one month, in order to prepare for University examinations. The chairman was requested to see the architect re forms for the infant-room. It was agreed to have 600 cards printed re prizes and picnic fund for distribution amongst the parents.
