The amount of revenue collected at the Customhouse on goods cleared to-day for consumption was LSSS ISs Od. ...,., Business in the import maiket has been fairly active during the week. Sugars are now coming forward more freely from Queensland, but prices remain steady. Current quotation for nrnst whites, in truda lots, is L2oto Li 6 10a; greys, L 25 to L 25 10s; An.e lean granulated, L 26 to L 26 10s. Teas have bten in better demand. For f lilts the inquirv is good. Currants bring 6Jd to 6Jd ; sultanas, CM to 6Jd ; eltuies 5d to 6Jd. Iu fish, silmon id very Ann at 9j 3d to 9s 6d for coctail; other britds, 9). Sardines are selling at 8s to 8s 6d for halves, 4s 9d to 5s quarters; lobsters, 8s 6d to 8s 9d ; ling, 6d to 5Jd. Ale and stout are in improved demand. Soda crystals, which are in rather short suppy, bring L 7 ss. Woolpaoks now landing ex Hampshire have been placed in small lots at Ss. Coarse cast >r oil, 31 to Ss Id ; colza, 3s Od ; boiled and raw oil, Si -21. Sales are repotted of Patna rice at L 24, while drested Japan Is easier at about Ll7 10s.
THE LABOR MARKET.
Mr Skene reports:—We are now on the eve of the bmy station season. Mustererp, shepherds, cooks, etc., will all be needed. Farm hands are always wan ted, and it is impossible to supply too demand for trained oirntry girls. Late wages are: Shepherds, LOO; Al ploughmen, 20s; laborers, boys, lads, and milkers, 8s to 15s; waiteis, 16s and 20s; cooks and bakers, 20s ; country Biniths, 25s and 80s; bushmen, SsandCs per cord; fa<m girls, 10s and 12s; housekeepers, 124,145, and Ids; barmaids, 20s.
MINING NOTES.
A magnificent specimen was brought into Roxburgh by Mr Frank Laloli, of Whitoouioe, a few days ago. It is about the fize of an egg, and oompotent judges pronounce it to contain between 4oz and 6oz of gold.—The condition of the Waitahuna River bed at Havelock is beginning to attract the attention of residents. The Chinese miners, who for some time pit-t have been working about the bridges, have dammed up and completely diverted the stream, and in such a way as to endanger the adjoining property in case of flood.—' Tuapeka Timts.'
