THE KENSINGTON RAILWAY SIDING.

Yesterday the Mayor of South Dunedin (Mr Wardrop) and the Mayor of St. (Mr Gourley) had an interview with the Hon. Mr Larnach and Mr Hannay (aet;ng manager of railways) in regard to the sk ,; ng at the Kensington crossing which is so much desired by the residents of the Flat. After hearing what their Worships had to say, Mr Hannay pointed out that owing to the insufficiency of the available land for such a purpose, it was quite impracticable to put in a siding at the spot indicated, but the Government had plenty of land in the immediate neighborhood of the Anderson 15ay road' crossing. The Department would be quite wi'ling to put in a aidinf there, and would make it free to all the' residents of the Flat, whereas if one had been practicable at Kensington they must have made a charge, on account of having to purchase additional land. The deputation, recognising the difficulty of the Government iu the matter, expressed their entire satisfaction with the arrangement proposed by Mr Hannay. The Hon. Mr Larnach guaranteed that the siding should be in working order within a fortnight. The settlement of this vexed question is due to the active and persistent conduct of the Hon. Mr Larnach. The siding will be within a quarter of a mile of the St. Kilda road, and three-quarters of a mile nearer the Flat than the present siding.
