The English Championships.

About 2,000 persons attended the annual Amateur Championship meeting at Stourbridge, England, July 2 and 4. We give brief details oi the competitions, only one of which produced a record—the hammer throw, which J. S. Mitchell, of Emly, Ireland, won, with 124 ft |tn. It is to be remarked, however, that the throw this year was from a Oft circle instead of 7ft, as formerly. High Jump (standard, sft 8m) —W. B. Page, Manhattan A.C., U.S., 6ft; G. Coming into the straight for home, Conneff made his effort, as did also Le Maitre, who passed the Irishman. Emly, W Tw«TA. Harrison, disqualified; E. Wall, disqualified. A farce. The water-jump had no side rail; took advantage of this, and scrambled out on the inner side. After unnecessary delay both were disqualified after going about a mile. The men were called out later on, although disqualified, and allowed another chance, when Harrison won easily by yards. At fivemiles (39min 36sec) Clarkehad obtained premier position, and, after rubbing off six miles in 48n>in 6sec, tliv Southampton man won by five yards, in 56min 49J sec. Kirby was first off, but retired at one and a-half miles. Moulding was in front at two miles, and was followed by Findlay and Carter. Dodds had now enough, and Findlay retired at four and three-quarter miles. Just before completing the five miles Carter wont 6n with the lead, and soon lapped Thomas. The American champion now had the race well in hand, and after running the last lap in 64sec won by 52 yards. Time for the full distance, 65min Osetr., .
