THE LAKE COUNTY CHAIRMANSHIP.

[B’roM Otilv Own Correspondent.]

QUEENSTOWN, September 6. In reference to the county chairmanship, the county solicitor's reply was: “If Mr Boyes’s name is not on the new roll he is disqualified.” And he quotes the sections of the Act, showing how proceedings may be taken if the chairman will not resign. Mr Boyes declined to resign, saying that the opinion was ambiguous. Councillors, however, said it was very explicit. Finally Mr Boyes vacated the chair, admitting that his name was not on the roll, but maintaining that he was still legally chairman. The question was publicly raised by the ‘ Lake County Press,’ and had to be considered, though his term of office had expired. The new roll came into force on July 1.
