SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the North-east Valley School Committee, held last evening, was attended by Messrs J. Hislop (chairman), Schlotel, D. Anderson, G. Calder, and Allen. The business transacted was of a routine character.

At the ordinary meeting of the Arthur street School Committee there were present —Messrs Sligo (in the chair), Dawson, M’Gregor, Crawford, Leslie, and Captain Orkney. The chairman reported having attended the Schools Conference on Saturday, the 6th ult., and gave a resumd of the proceedings which took place thereat. The head-master reported that the number of pupils on the register was 763, and the average attendance for the last month 673. He also intimated that the average attendance would have been considerably greater but for an epidemic of influenza prevailing in the district. The police reported that for the month of August four boys and two girls had not been attending school. It was left to the Visiting Committee to deal with the parents. Accounts amounting to Ll3 39s lid, for coal and other necessaries, were passed for payment. Captain Orkney and Mr Alexander Burt were appointed a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month.
