In the House of Commons to-day, Sir James Fergusson repeated the statements made by Lord Salisbury in the House of Lords on the Ist* last, as to the position of affairs, and stated that the Government eon. tinqed (9 urge France to arrive at a settle* meat. The newspaper ‘ Le Soleil ’ in an article discussing the New Hebrides question suggestp that France should seek to recompense England for tbfl occupation of the group in a manner which would Le acceptable to the latter. The desire for such recompense is, the * Soleil ’ declares, England's sole motive in opposing French occupation.
