CAVERSHAM ELECTION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,- -At Mr Rutherford’s meeting last evening a question was asked relative to the carriage of iron to ironworks at Burnside. The candidate said in reply that ho was of opinion that the Government should run the railway at such tariff as would destroy all competition. This, he said, had been done at Greonook and elsewhere. How does Mr Rutherford, as a labor candidate, justify his position, seeing that myself and several other carters will have the very bread taken out of our mouths, if the railway rates are reduced. At present, it is hard enough for us to get employment without having as a competitor the Government avowedly cutting down prices below cost. Surely, carters deserve consideration as well as carpenters I am, etc,, Carter. Cavcrsbam, August 3.
