RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Stewart, claim L 7 ss, amount due on a sewing machine sold; same v. J. Darby, L 6 sa; same v. 6, Becker, 12s; same v. J. Lawlor, L 3 15s; same v. P. Philips, L 5 12s ; same v. A. Pimm, Lsl6s ; same v. D. Gray, L 3 15s; J. Marshall v. P. Hurley (Patea), LI 3 10s, for ale supplied. J M‘Fie v. G. Wells —Claim, L2 18s fid, on a judgment summons. Mr J. Adams appeared for plaintiff.—Defendant agreed to pay the amount by instalments of 5s per week, and an order was made accordingly, in default two days’ imprisonment. R. Davidson v. R. and M. Dundas. —Claim, L6l9s Id, for goods supplied. Mr W. Macgregor appeared for plaintiff; Mr Stanford for defendants.—Judgment was given for plaintiff, with costs. CITY POLICE COURT. (Before E. H. Carow, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness, — James Turner was convicted of this offence and discharged. Cruelty to Animals. John Porncski and John Mathison were charged will illtreating a bull in Cargill road. Mr Milne appeared for the informants, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.—R. T. Aitken, the Society’s inspector, stated that the bull was being dragged by the nose behind a dray driven by tho defendants, and the animal was in great pain.—The defendants, neither of whom appeared, were fined 20s each and costs, in default three days’ imprisonment. Assault.— Thomas Wyatt was charged with having, on July 25, assaulted one John Cadzow, at Anderson Bay. Mr J. Macgregor'appeared for tl\c complainant ; Mi- Deumaton for defendant. —After evidence had been taken defendant was fined L 5, with costs. Provoking Language. —Mary Coxon was charged with using provoking and insulting language towards Louisa Milligan. Mr Dcnnistou appeared for complainant; Mr Macdonald for defendant. The case was struck out owing to a flaw in tho information.
