SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.
Since the publication of the N.Z. Cup weights there has been inquiry for Lochiel, and the best offer against Mr Stead's horse is now 100 to 8.
The • Canterbury Timeß' says : The appearance of the Melbourne Cup weights led to some wagering. Silver Prince was the most inquired for, and was backed to win a considerable sum at 100 to 4, at which figure Trident had supporters. Trenton, Thunderbolt, and Spade Guinea were backed at 100 to 3; Nelson, Too Soon, Pasha, and Bangle at the same figure. Lochiel heads the New "Zealand Cup list at 100 to 6; but Beresford and Nelson were wanted at 100 to 5. The C. J.C. Derby is almost neglected; but there is a disposition to back Sextant, and Maxim is a little weaker. ~..
