MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

RK J. C. CAMPBELL. An adjourned meeting of creditors in the estate of J, G. Campbell, of Shag Point, miner, -was held at the Official Assignee's office yesterday afternoon. The Assignee said that since the first meeting he had sold the bankrupt's property at Fairfield at LSO over the amount due by him to the Walton Park Company. The meeting had been adjourned to enable the bankrupt's wife to be examined. The bankrupt had handed in a statement showing that during the past two years he had received L 655 and expended L 594, which left about L6O unaccounted for.

The bankrun*'« wife stated, in answer to the Assignee, tLut utr husband gave her all the money he earned. He earned 10s 6d per day, but was not always in work. The son earned the same when in work, and also gave her his wages. Bankrupt's half-brother, Mr Caffrey, lodged with them, and gave her, on the average, LI 5s per week. Witness's father also lodged with them, but he earned nothing till they went to Shag Point. He used to earn 5s per day when in work, and gave it to her. She attributed her husband's getting into difficulties to his speculating in property, and to the fact of the r having a large family. One son earned wages, and two daughters were in service for a time. Of the latter one earned 14s per week, and the other 6s; but they kept their earnings. Witness had only L2 10d in cash now. She had never had a bank account, fche had no property at all; she had three sections at Burnside, but they had been assigned over to a Mr Gurr to secure money due on them. The payments on these sections were made with Mr Caffrey's money. Seveial of the creditors here stated that Mrs Campbell always got out of paying them money by asserting that she had to pay instalments due on the sections. This was denied by Mrs Campbell, but the Assignee said that there was no doubt that the creditors had been more or less misled by the bankrupt himself, or his wife, or both. It was resolved to accept an offer from the bankrupt of LIOO, payable by equal monthly instalments extending over two years.
