CITY POLICE COURT.

DRUNKKNNBSS.-J'o/in Km' was convicted and discharged. Damaging Pnorwnr.— Dugald M'Coll, (or damaging a door, was lined 6s, and ordered to pay the cost of repairing the door (IBs), in default three days’ imprisonment.

Assault with Intknt to Rob.— Charles Boyd, a young man, was charged with assaulting Thomas Gray with Intent to rob him.—The informant, who is about sixty years of age, deposed that h,e was a fisherman residing at Riverton. Ho met the accused yesterday at noon in the West Coast Hotel, when ho changed a pound-note. Last night, while he was coming down Walker street about half-past nine, he was accosted by the accused with a request to “ shout.” Witness refused, but gave accused threepence to get a glass of beer. The accused disappeared for two or three minutes, but returning wanted more money. Aroused subsequently got behind witness, and suddenly knocking him down attempted to get at his trousers pocket, in which he hod L 7. Witness succeeded in getting away from the accused, who then wanted to fight him. Accused was the worse of drink. Witness was quite sober.—George Coleman, laborer, said that as he was passing along Hope street he heard a fall in Walker street, and on going down to sec what was the matter he found the'accused “shaping up” to the informant. The former kept saying “If you don’t stop making that row I'll hit you.” The informant complained of the other knocking him down.—Constable Uatheson gave evidence as to coming on the scene in the midst of the altercation, when the informant wished to give th i accused in charge for assau t. —Sergeant-major Bevln pointed out that there had been several street robberies lately.—The Bencii thought there was room for doilbt in the cose, and gave the accused the benefit of it. Larceny. —John Lotti was charged by Jessie Holt with steiling 8s (id, and also with assault on the 18th inst. Mr Catamore appeared for the informant, and Mr Wilkinson for the defendant. The evidence showed that the parties wore on p’culiar terms of familiarity, and that on Satui day night they had un altercation at the complainant’s house, and these two charges wi re the result.—The case was dismissed
