Mobsington. This Council met last evening, when there were present The Mayor (Mr J. Grindley) Crs Morrison, Norman, Reynolds, Caflm, Campbell, and Giller. The Finance Committee reported that L 24 12s had been paid into the bank since the last meeting, and the present overdraft was L 1,316 12a Id. Accounts amounting to Lsl 3s 4d had been passed for payment. Adopted.—The Works Committee recommended inter alia as follows : —Appold street: That the inspector keep as near the levels as possible in forming this street, and curtail the width of the cutting if necessary ; that the inspector lift and replace Mr Seideberg’s hedge, filling-in the road to the full width, provided Mr Seideberg assist in the work ; that the partly-formed footpath from Hawthorne avenue to Preston avenue be completed at a cost not exceeding L4los. Adopted.—The inspector of slaughter-houses reported that they were all in good order, and that sixty-nine head of large and 875 head of small cattle had been slaughtered within the Borough during the past month. Adopted.—The town clerk reported that the valuation list had been revised and some thirty objections had been disallowed. The annual rateable value of the Borough was as follows: —First Ward, L 7,846; Second Ward, L 9,520; Third Waul, L 4 498. Houses in First W r ard 221, in Second 248, in Third 142 - total 061. The total valuation was L21,8G4, and, as compared with last year, showed a decrease of L 34, which, at the old rate of Is in the £, would amount to LI 14s. Adopted.—The Town Clerk of the City Council wrote stating that the Council were willing to contribute L 25 towards the repair of the road across the Town Belt in continuation of Stafford street. It was resolved, on the motion of the Mayor, that the offer be accepted with thanks.—ihe secretary of the Dunedin Highland Rifles wr ote reouesting permission to nro the range they had acquired near Mornington. Granted for twelve months,—Several applications for repairs to streets, etc., were referred to the Works Committee.—The Dunedin Town Clerk wrote asking that an inspection might be made of the various dairies in the Borough. Inspector to visit, and report at next meeting. It was resolved that the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board accounts be paid by monthly instalments.—Messrs Coulls, Culling’s tender of Cs lid per page for printing the burgess roll was accepted. The highest tender was Us 6d,—A number of tenders were received for the purchase of the old Town Hall, and the lease of the section on which it stands. After considerable discussion the two highest tenders were referred to the Mayor and chairman of the Finance Committee to deal with.—On the motion of Mr Reynolds it was resolved —“That the Tramway Company be requested to put in proper repair the track of thq tram line in accordance with the terms of concession.”
