THE JUBILEE SCHEMES.

TO THK EDITOR. SIR,— Amongst your Bchemes for celebrating the Queen's Jubilee I see one is a Convalescents Home. I think, unless something is done to tho Bay in clearing out the filth gathered from the sewers, we will require a few more hospitals. Might I suggest that a canal be cut at Lawyer Head, as it was proposed before, to cause a current to keep the Bay clear. By doing so the Convalescents' Home would not be so mucii required.—l am, etc, TOBY. Dunedin, April 27.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—Mr Brown's proposal re planting the Town Belt has, judging from the correspondence arising, met with great favor, and I would beg to suggest that the citizens of Dunedin petition the Mayor to grant a holiday to the children of the district schools for what is known in America as a " planting day "; that is, each child is provided with a certain number of trees which ho or she plants, and from time they are placed in, that child looks upon those trees as its special care. In this way children have an interest in the Town Belt, which will in after years effectually endear to their memory the town of Dunedm, whilst for the present they take such care over the growth of their respective trees as will ensure their being thoroughly attended to. —I am, etc., Pakkha. Dunedin, April 27.
