Messrs A. Thomson and J. R, Monson, J.P.5.,. presided at the Port Chalmers Police Court this forenoon. Hugh Davis was charged with assaulting a boy named James Cashman on the Bth inst. Mr North appeared for the complainant. After hearing the evidence the Bench considered a trifling assault had been committed, but as the boy had been very insolent to the defendant they merely inflicted a fine of 2s and costs, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. i
