The opening match—President v. Vicepresident—of the Pirates Club took place on Saturday afternoon at Carisbrook, and resulted in a victory for the Vice-president’s side by 19 points to nil. The augmented by some dozen or so of the Montecillo Club,. played a game on the Oval on Saturday. ‘ Sides were chosen by Treseder and Brddrlck, the former’s team winning by 13 to 5. Tries! were gained by Treseder (2), Noel (2), and Aitken. Shepherd and Edwards each kicked' a goal. The forward play was fairly fast, but too much picking-up of the ball was noticeable, and not enough reliance on footwork. The back play was up to the average. Treseder, Shepherd. Edwards, Beck, Noel, gtevenson, Deaker, a#d' Gregory 'did 'good service for their respective sides. The match at Christchurch between the, Merivale and Union (Wellington) Football Clubs on Saturday was won by Merivale by two goals and a try to nil. The goals were kicked from the field by Crowe and Dallas. Merivale had much the best of the game.
