Mount street, Port Chalmers, January 25,1887. From an accident I had an abscess form in the muscles of my back. I was 10 months in the Auckland Hospital, where tho doctors cut and cut again, but failed to give me relief. Previous to this I was four months under a local doctor without effect; at last they could do no more—they said let it take its course. At this time a probe could be run four inches into the open wound. I had 19 months of this misery. In about two months Dr Spekk has cured me sound and well. I can run, jump, and do as I please; am ready for any kind of work; and the wound is healed. If anyone doubts this they can call and see me, as I am well known in Port Chalmers. I have been ill about'six years. I came to Now Zealand for the benefit of my health about four years ago, but got worse. I was over four months in the Dunedin Hospital, the card over my bed stating my disease to be consumption; and I was discharged, as they could do me no good. I picked up one of Dr Speer's handbills in the hospital grounds, and called to see him. He laughed at my sad appearance, and said: "Be happy, old man; you are worrying over the past; you have been frightened. Do as I tell you, and you will soon feel like a new man." In ten weeks I find he was right. I feel better than I have for years, and am ready to go to work.
