THE LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held this morning, and was attended by Messrs Maitland (Chief Commissioner), Duncan, Clark, and M'Kenzie.

The following tenders for perpetual-lease land were accepted:—Sections 45 to 49, block 3, Blackstone district, 237 a 2r 15p, J. F. Auderson, at Is per acre (upset); section 5, block 13, Strath Taieri district, 243 a lr 13p, B. R. Whitton, at la (upset). The Board decided to decline the applications of Messrs Brown and Reeves for leave of absence, on* the ground that if it was f ranted the Board would be left during the 'arliamentary session with b bare quorumof members, which might result in great public inconvenience. The resolution of the Board with reference to the forfeiture of W. M. Anderson's license of deferred-payment seotion 3, block 8, Wendon, was rescinded, and it was resolved to notify the lessee that he musttfpay the instalments due bofore the Ist June." I

Mr T. Duncan, M.H.R., forwarded a petition from residents in Upper Waitaki district askissg the Board to throw open Run 243 (Mr Rutherford's) for pastoral selection, as the same would bo suitable for five or six good farms.-For-warded to the Government with a recommendation that the request be complied with—the flat laud between the road and the Waitaki River to be opened for agricultural settlement and the remainder in small grazing runs.

An application by J. Curie to occupy sections 19 to 22, block 2, Budle, if he cleared the land of rabbits, was declined. E. Hayes asked that section 12, block 13, Blackstone, should be opened for perpetual leasing, at a capital value of 20s per acre.— Government recommended to open sections 12, 13,14,17, and 19. An offer by R. Muir to lease eoal-mining reserve, section 3, block 4, Kurow, for grazing purposes', was declined. The forfeiture of D. M'Oarthy's license was rescinded, he having paid L 29 5s on account. The application of B. B. Baird to purchase agricultural-lea°e sections 35, 36, 44, 51, and 54, blook 6, Shotover, was recommended for the Governor's approval. Deferred-payment licenses were ordered to issue to K. BeatoD, seotion 18, blook 4, Otara, and G. Law, section 27, blosk 4, Gimmerburn. Capitalisation was authorised in the case of Mary Ann M'Namara (section 11, block 4, Swin burn). The application of J. B. Crossan to complete the purchase of section 21, block 12, Mount Hyde, was approved. The following surrenders of perpetual leases were aooepted:—A, TV. Archibald, section 11, block 8, "Wendon; J. M'Gregor, section 26, do, do; W. TayJes, section 9, block 10, do; R. Hamilton, jun., section 11, do, do. The application of J. Caley to purchase section 37, block 4, Catlins, was granted, subject to boundary alteration*. It was resolved to offer Runs 137 and 137b at auction at an upset price of 2d per acre, and Run 1370 at Id.

The matinee to be given by the profession in Melbourne in aid of the widow and child of the late William Hoskina on 2nd inst. must have been a great monetary success, as on the morning that the box plan was opened the whole of the circle Beats were sold, and it was then deoided to reserve a portion of the stalls at circle prices.
