The Wolseley Patent Shearer.

Of this implement, a correspondent of the ‘Age/ writes:—“ lattendedan exhi-bition,to-day of Mr Wolseley’s patent sheepshearer at the warehouses of B» Goldsbrongh and Co., and was much impressed with the very great value, of the One of the sheep was denuded of its fleece in three minutes thirty-seven seconds. The Invention seems to amply fulfil all that Mr Wolseley claims for it, and wiU prove a great boon to the sheep former—not for the simple reason that 1 have seen brought forward, that it will render him independent of the shearer of the present day, for it will not. have that result; hat because its wool will. be shorn more regularly, there will be no ridges, no double cuts, no tar-pots necessary , to salve wounds made by careless shearers, a longer staple will be shorn, and an extra weight of wool obtained, which may ho roughly estimated at from five to ten ounees. The sheep farmer may well say that .with snob advantages as these accruing from, the use of the machines he would be indifferent. to the redaction of the present rate of ‘ shearing, even if the intradnctioa.of the machine led to this; but it may be some satisfaction to shearers to know that their occnjfotion would not be gone, nor even affected adversely. The/same number of shearers will be employed as of ' yore, but their work ’ will be, easier, and any foaraef their wages befog decreased may be dismissed. 1 understand further experiments are to be made, so as to enable judgment'' to be formed as to the general applicability of the machine to all kinds of sheep. U these experiments result in confirming the' favorable opinion now generally entertained * of the invention; Mr Wolseley will have conferred an immense benefit nponall growers of wool.” 1 ■ :
