THE ANGLICAN CHURCH AT PORT CHALMERS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—lt is amusing to see the attempts of some of your correspondents to raise a flutter in the - dovecot of the Anglican Ohnrch at Port Chalmers. One who (sarcastically no doubt) subscribes himself “Troth” talks about the prosperous condition of the church in times gone by. He says something, too, about the congregation not “hitting it off” with the parson. Well, ever since I have: known them, and that’s for some ten years, there have been about three congregations belonging to the English Church here, and they seem to take it in turns in getting on or falling out with each successive minister. As to the sound financial state of the ohnrch formerly existing, I know as a fact that two incumbents left disgusted frith one or more of the numerous congregational cliques, and considerably minus their stipends; and from inquiries I have made I learn that literally no attempt whatever was nude daring the prosperous epoch referredJfcp by “Truth” to reduce the chuich debt.—l am, etc..
