The amount of revenue collected at the CustomuoußO on poods cleared to-day for consumption was L 1,790 2s 101 STOCK AND STATION REPORT. Mr Donald Stronaoh (on behalf of tho New Zea'acd Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for tho week ended March 22 as follows Fat Stock.—Tho supply this week to hand was under the average, only 111 head bcinz yarded, about one-half of which wore pood to prime quality, the other half only medium and lightweights. Bidding was exceedingly dull, prices obtained for those sold leaving no margin to the grazier. Several pens were turned out unsold rather than submit to prices offered. Best bullocks brought L 0 to L 7 10a, one or two pens slightly over; light and medium quality, L 8 12s fld to L 5 16b ; and oowe in proportion. Fat Sheep.—A medium supply was penned to-day, viz, 1,708, of which 470 were merinoes, useful quality, and the balance crcsa-breds, ail ewes, with tho exception of one 'ot of wethers, two-thirds of which were good to prime and heavy weights, the real light an J medium. There was only a small attendance of tho trade present, who competed with extreme nauiion. H ices wcie very irregular, in some cases •■■lightly higher than la»t week’s, and in others lower f r'equally a od quality. Values avain to-day were sustained through purchases made for boiling down. Best cross-bred wethers (the only lot) brought 8s 3d ; best cross-bred ewes, 6s 3d to 7s 6d; light and medium, 4s 9d to 6s; merinoes, 2s 9d to Bs. we sold on account o Messrs Boat Bros., Meadowbank, 160

Competition for best pons was fairly active, while small and medium Were In less demand.' Prices ranged to-day from 2s 6d to 7s 3d. Pigs.—292 were penned, comprising all sorts Competition fur all round was active, but more especially for stores; Suckers brought 6'sfid; slips, 10s6d to 16s 6d; stores, 19s fid to 255; porkers, 20s to 28s ; bacon pigs, S2s to 60s—one or two heavy weights ilightly ovo”. . Store Ostt’C. Well-bred grown cattle continue jo fair demand, but prices are not quite so firm as lately for these. Ordinary mixed lots are not much inquired for. Transactions during the week have beeh limited, Store Sheep - Few desirable lots of young sheep are new offering These are in most demand, and getting more difficult to obtain in suitable lots. There i-e a considerable number of aged sheep, chiefly merino ewes and wethers, still on hand, which are being gradually reduced for boiling down. We have no improvement in prices to note. Wool.—No advices of any importance relative to this staple have been received during the week. Latest cablegrams reported the tone of the ma'ket firm, so that the reports of the opening of the second scries of London sales this day will be looked for with great interest, as a quantity of Otago wools will then be offered. There Is a small business done loca’jy still. Hack-country smell lots and station oddments continue to come forward, which are being disposed of weekly, when the local bus'ers compete spMtediy, all sorts bringing prices comparing favorably with priced catalogues lately to hand. Sheepskins. - We submitted a mod--rate catalogue at our weekly sale on Monday, chiefly butchers’ green skins and a few country dry. There was the usual attendance of buyersand competition active, resulting in a further advance of green skins. All sorts were m good dtmand, Dry oross-breds, low to medium, brought Bd to Ss lid; do do merino, lOd to 3s 2d ; dry pelt-, OJd to7d; butchers’ green oross-breds, 2s ad, 28 4d, 2s sd, 2s fid, 2s 7d, 2s 8d; no merinos cataiagued; lamb-skins, 2s Id, 2s 2d, 2s 3d, 2s fid, 2s Bd, 2s 9d, Babbit-skins,- We offered a small catalogue on Monday, which elicited keen competition from a number of buyers when prices realised showed a distinct advance on those lately obtained for similar quality. Small and suckers brought IJd; common and low season, 6Jd to8d; medium, 9d to lOfd per lb. Hides.—We have no alteration to report. The market continues firm. A good demand exlets for local manufacturing and also for shipment. Sellers And no difficulty in placing consignments immediately on arrival at late rates—viz , lor slippy and bulls, lid to 2d; light, 2*d to 2|d ; medium, 2}d to Sid; heavy, and in perfect condition, BJd to 4id per lb. Tallow. The demand for mixed and medium quality is slightly brisker, but without any improvement in price Prime mutton is also inquired for, and could be placed at last week’s quotations ; but renderera hold out for more money, and, rather than meet buyers, prefer shipping. Owinir to local manufacturers being in a position to utilise all consignments from the country, and any oddments coming forward unfit for shipment, stocks are rarely heavy. We quote inferior and mixed, 10a to 12s ; medium, 13a to 16s; good to prime rendered mutton, Ifis to 20a ; rough fat, inferior 6s to 7s, medium 8s to 9s; clean caul fat, 10a to 11s per owt. Grain.—Wheat; The market during the past week has been rather quiet. There is no demand for shipment of any consequence. Transactions have been quite unimportant. Millers are operating very cautiously, and late quotations are barely sustained except for prime red straw or similar quality, which seems to be somewhat in short supply in the meantime. Wo quote best milling 3ißlto3a 9d ; medium to good, 3s Cd to 3s 7d ; inferior and fowls wheat, 2s 9d to 3s 3d (exsxore, bags weighed in) - Oats : These are coming to hand more freely, and, as Doth millers and shippers can now rely on getting supplied when required, the demand is less keen. There are a few orders on hand for shipment, hut buyers are limited to price lower than current quotations; and according to market reports from both Melbourne and Sydney the prospect for shipping to either of these por’s is not very encouraging. In this market now the tendency is towards lower piiees, and only on very rare oceationo could last week’s quotations be obtained. We quote p:imc milling, la 8J to Is BJd ; lest short bright feed, Is 7Jd to Is 8d ; medium, Is fid to Is 7d (ex store), hags weighed in. Nearly alt coming to lurid as yet arc faliiy well filled and a good color —Barley : There is a good demand for shipment, also some inquiry by local maltsters, but the now crop is exceedingly slow in coming to hand, and the indications arc that the available supply will be short of requirements In the meantime there is no business of any consequence passing. We quote best malting nominal 3s to 3s 3d, medium 2s 9d to Ss ; feed and milling, 2s 3d to 2s 8d (tx store) Rye-grass Seed.—The market still continues dull, although a few small choice lots have been disposed of for .-.hipment to Melbourne at very low pticos. We r ffeted several lots of annera’ undressed at auction a few days ago which scarcely elicited a bid.—Cocksfoot seed is very little inquired tor, and scarcely any business doing.
