A terrible tragedy was enacted at Collingwood (Victoria) on the 12th inst. James Wright, a laborer, while temporarily insane through epileptic fits, to which he had been subject, ran “ amuck ” at the inmates of his house. He had been in the house all day, his wife being confined ; but the nurse, though disturbed at his appearance, ho being strange and excited, did not take any steps to have him disturbed, as he seemed so affectionately disposed towards his wife and child. la the evening, however, he became very excited, attacked his wife with a knife, and then attacked a Mrs Harrington, a neighbor. He had dragged his wife out of bed and carried the child into the back yard, but neither of the women nor the child was seriously hurt. Wright then cut his own throat, and died in the hospital half an hour after his admission. A verdict of “Suicide while of unsound mind ” was returned. Madame Adelina Patti is a confirmed autograph hunter, and no friend of any distinction has been permitted to pass her threshold until he or she has written his or her name. The consequence is that signatures of nearly every one of note are found in her album.
