The Walhora left Wlliiamstown at 3.30 p m. on tin Bth, breasted Swan Island at 11.80 a.m, on the oth, and reached Hobart at 6 a.m on the 10th ; left at ll a.m. on the 11th, sighted Cape Puysogur at 5.80 a.m. on the lltb, and arrived alongside the Bluff wharf at 1.15 p.ra. ; left in the evening, making Otago Heads at daylight, and steamed direct to town, berthing alongside the Rattray street wharf shortly before sight o'clock. She experienced fine weather from Melbourne to Hobart, tbonco strong N.W. winds with high following sea to arrival at the Bluff. There has Just been completed the charter for the first-class German ship Victoria. 3.3, 41.1, for Dunedin, with option to call at Lyttelton ; Intended sailing towards the end of February. The vessel is expected to bo ready to commence loading in about .eight days. There' has cleared January 23, sa. Hobonstaufen, of the German Government Lino, general cargo lor Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. On or aVout February 20 the s.«. Tlabsburgb, of tbo German Government Line, with general cargo, will leave for Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney, taking goods in through freight lor Lyttelton via Melbourne. During 1888 twepty-two vessels were lost on the osait of New South Wales, classified i s follows:—Ten steamers, seven schooners, two brigs, and thtte ketches, with no fewer than 111 lives. This included the four lives lost from tho Helen Nlcoll, which collided with the Kellawarra. Of the twenty-two wrecks, including the Helen Nlooll casualty, only six nport loss of life, but tho terrible less on the Kellawarra and Ly-oe-moon gives an average of a little over five to each wrick, otherwise the proportion of lives lost to wrecks would have been far bilow the average. The aggregate value of property lost amounted to L 122.730, whilst tho same property was Insured to the aggregate amount of 1.43,300, wh o'l is about 30 per cent, of tbo aotual value lost.
