VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The ordinary monthly captain’s parade of the North Dunedin Rifles took place on Wednesday evening, when there was a good attendance. After the men had been drilled by Staff - sergeant Harrison, they were marched into the hall, where Captain Burns presented very valuable prizes, contributed by Messrs W. Wright, A. Lees, J. Horsburgh, and J. Pryor, Corporal Hutchinson won Mr A. Lees’s prize (a clock and inkstand), Lieutenant Johnston Mr Pryor’s prize (a biscuit jar), Lieutenant Richardson Mr Wright’s prize (a gold Maltese cross). Volunteer W. Hutchinson Mr Horsburgh’s prize (an album). Captain Burns also presented Lieutenant Richardson with the Company’s belt, he having won that trophy, and retains it for the ensuing year. The half-yearly meeting was afterwards held. The balance-sheets read by the secretary, treasurer, and hall-keeper showed the Company to be in a fairly satisfactory position. Messrs Wright, Lees, Pryor, and Horsburgh were unanimously elected honorary members.
