At the hurdle at the top turn Kangaroo fell away, and Secretary assumed the head of affairs, Master Agnes and Faugh-a-Ballagh coming next. Along the back stretch Secretary increased his lead, and with Master Agnes drew away from the other horses. An interesting race took place between these two, and Secretary was first into tho straight by two lengths ahead of the top weight, Kangaroo being third, the others tailing off some distance away. There was considerable delay at the post, Nelson and Tasman appearing anxious to break away The starter was not successful in getting the horses away to a good start. When set going Captain Webster was quickest on his legs, and rounding the top turn had a half length lead from Pasha, who had Leon on his quarters, Tasman, Nelson, and Ugly Buck running in the ruck together a length away. In this order they swept past the stand, Lady Emma and Administrator bringing up the rear. As they turned by the road Nelson could be seen improving his position, and Derritt on Tasman followed, and Pasha dropped back. Passing Holmes's Captain Webster still led, with Nelson close up, and the position remained unchanged till entering the straight, except that Pearl could be seen wending her way through the field. As the _ horses turned into the straight there was little to choose between Captain Webster and Nelson, but Pearl had run into third place. When 100 yards from home Nelson had the race well in hand. When they were sent away the horses were all over the field, and Capsize had the worst of it by fully three lengths. Miss Dargon, closely attended by Little Scrnb, was quickest away, and they led the field at a merry pace. Along the back stretch Capsize made an effort to pass the leaders when near the road, but soon died away again. Entering the straight Little Scrub passed Miss Dargon, but Athol Daisy came with a brilliant dash, and cutting down horse after horse soon had the premier position, which she maintained to the finish, beating Little Scrub by a length, who in his turn was two lengths ahead of Miss Dargon, Rumor fourth, then followed Talebearer, Armorer, and Capsize in the order named, Soudan being a dozen lengths away, last.
