NORTH DUNEDIN CHURCH.
TO THE EDITOB. Sm,—Noticing in your last night's Star a paragraph stating that eight new officebearers had been unanimously elected by the congregation, allow me, as one of the congregation, to protest against such a statement as misleading. The office-bears referred to were selected by the Rev. A. C. Gillies, nominated by a friend of his, and declared unanimously elected, before the congregation had sufficient time to nominate their own men. These elders and deacons are the third set of office-bearers since the Rev. A. C. Gillies has become minister. Had it not been that one of the elders agreed to hold over bis resignation until a new session was formed, Mr Gillies would have had the honor of going to the Presbytery to ask them to form a new se.'gion, as all his elders but one could not work with him, and therefore , resigned. Whenaddressingthe new elders, he 1 said: " I hope pone of you will preach, above all things M (a slight dig at one of his former elders who conducts services occasionally), "as it has cost me eleven years' study and hundreds of pounds, and I am only a poor preacher yet. Now, sir, I can speak for a large number of the congregation, and quite endorse the last remark.—l am, etc., One of tiie Conqreqatioj*, Dunedin, January 6,
