RACING IN ENGLAND.

[From Our London Correspondent.]

London, April 11

Fine weather and every prospect of a capital race attracted one of the largest assemblages ever known to Aintree on the Grand National Day. The rings wore so crammed that locomotion was attended with considerable difficulties, and a dense throng lined both sides of the rails far up the course. Punctually to time nineteen runners were telegraphed for the big race of the day, the fiela including a previous winner in Zoedoue, and four horses that had previously obtained places in Downpatrick, Roquefort, Frigate, and Black Prince. On Thursday Zoedone was backed as if the race were all over, 7 to 2 being taken freely in thousands. On Friday, however, the mare’s appearance was not liked, and she receded to 5 to 1 ; Roquefort finishing up a hot favorite at 100 to 30. At 7 to 1 Frigate was also heavily supported, and Ben More and Kilworth had plenty of supporters. The first and most disagreeable surprise of the race took place during the exercise canter, when Zoedone, who seemed half asleep, crossed her legs and fell at the hurdle opposite the stand, rolling over Count Kinsky. He seemed much shaken, but mounted again amidst the cheers of the crowd. Zoedone, however, played no part in the race, neither did her stable-com-panion Kilworth, a fact which gave rise to a disagreeable suspicion that they were hocussed. Certainly neither of the pair aver cut such a figure before. Zoedone, especially, lias been a dozen times over the Liverpool country without ever making a mistake. Grand National Stbbplkciiasi! of 1,000 guineas, and 100 sovs to the second. Winners extra. Neatly four miles and a half. Mr Cooper’s Roquefort, 6 yrs, list (Ur E. P. Zoedone, Lioness, Kilworth, Jolly Sir John, Candahar, Belmont, Albert Cecil, Lang Syne, Ben More, Axminster, Red Hussar, Dog Fox, Redpath, Downpatrick, Harlequin, and Gamecock also started. The story of the race itself is soon told. Downpatrick, with his light weight, topk the field along a rare pace ; but the favorite and Frigate were always well on the premises, being about third or fourth nearly the whole way. Directly the leading division came on the racecourse for the final run home the issue was seen to lie between this Eair, At first Frigate seemed to have the est of it, but Mr Wilson shook up his mount, and, keeping well in front down the straight, won in a canter by two lengths. Old Black Prince plodding on was third, and Redpath a goad fourth. Ben More, Harlequin, and Kilworth fell, and Belmont broke down. Time, lOmin lOsec. Value of the stakes, LI ,035. The Bard followed up his Brooklesby victoiy by winning the Molyneux Stakes, the principal two-year-old race of the meeting, and Lovely carried off the Prince of Wales s Cup (of 1,000 sovs) aud a nice sum in bets for Sir George Chetwynd. The Liverpool Spring Cup, of a mile aud a-quarter, was considered a good thing for Brocken, who did not get off well at Lincoln, her jockey averred.

Both, however, had soon to give way to Chislehurst, who came on the left, and won a good race by half a-length ; two lengths between second and third. Value of the stakes, L 856. At Nottingham last week Mr J. Barnard’s Cutler won tire Spring Handicap, and Mr Cleveland’s Exquisite (by Exminster out of Fair Alice) the Bestwood Park Handicap.
