PRINCESS’S THEATRE.

-The Ward-Vernon company reappeared on Thursday evening, and were greeted by an audience sufficiently large to fill the house in every part. A slight disappointment was in store for some of those who attended, for a few minutes after eight Mr Vernon appeared before the curtain rpid announced that oVving to the sudden illufcss of one of the members of the company—the lady cast as Miss Zenobia—it would be absolutely impossible to produce “A Scrap of Paper.” With the permission of their patrons the company would substitute “The Queen’s Favorite.” Sardou’s promised comedy would, however, be put on on Saturday evening, and, if anyone so wished it, his ticket would be renewed for that occasion; The announcement was received with all but universal approbation; and, as a matter of fact, no one left the house in consequence of the change of programme. A few moments’ delay was asked for by the manager, and then the curtain rose on “The Queen’s Favorite,” the east of which was as follows : —Viscount Bolingbroke, Mr Vernon; Ensign Masham, Mr Laurence ; Marquis de Torsey, Mr Fenton; Sir John Tyrel, Mr Edwards ; Officer of Queen’s Household, Mr Darvell; Queen Anne, Miss Vcitch; Abigail Hill, Miss Phillips; Duchess of Marlborough, Miss Ward. The performance was in nearly every respect a highly satisfactory one; and the audience frequently testified to their appreciation of the treat provided. We have on a previous occasion referred in detail to this charming comedy, and there is no need to say more at present than that from begining to end its representation was exceedingly amusing. “ A Scrap of Paper ” will be produced this evening, and the season will be brought to a close on Monday evening with the wellknown masterpiece of this company “Forget-Me-Not.”
