THE LAND BOARD.

The Board sat again to-day, when the fa lowing business was transacted: — A dispute was considered between the licensees of Runs 217 a and 217b relating to the occupation of a part of country claimed by both licensees. —Mr Connell appeared on behalf of the Mew Zealand and Australian Land Company; and Mr Hodgkins for Mr Fenwick.— Mr Stout moved: “That the matter should be remitted to the Supreme Court for decision.”— Mr Green moved as an amendment: “That the Board is of opinion that it resolved to lease Run 217b in terms of its resolution of the 10th January, 1882, as shown on lithograph plans issued by the Government to the public, the Government having approved of the Board’s decision.”—The amendment was carried, Messrs Stout and Duncan dissenting. Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf of W, Leask, complained of a portion of section 22, block 1, Tiger Hill, being granted to Mr K Smith, the Board having previously decided to dispose of it by auction. —It was resolved that Mr Smith having made application to withdraw his proposal, he be allowed to do so. , , , Mr W. Messrs Connell and Moodie, on behalf of Felix Fox, applied to have section 2, block 5, Lower Wanaka, opened on deferred-pay-ment, or to be allowed to purchase same at 20s per acre.—lt was resolve* that the Government be recommended to open sections 1, 2, and 3, block 5, Lower Wanaka; also 5, 7, 8, and 9, block 3, Lower Hawea, on deferred payment at 30s per acre. Messrs Connell and Moodie (on of Robert Kidd), in reference to his application for a coal license in the township of Wyndham, stated that only one section, as granted him by the Board, will be of no service, and unless he could obtain a license for both sections he would withdraw his application. —The Board declined to alter its previous decision. . Messrs Connell and Moodie applied on behalf of Messrs Rowley and Hamilton to make application for a license, under section 25 of the Public Reserves Act, 1881, to occupy the forest tree planting reserve fronting the Taieri River and adjoining sections 3, 4, and 5, block 14, Maniototo. The application was declined. Messrs Connell and Moodie, as agents for Sir F. D. Bell and Watson Shennan, applied for a division of Run 261 e into two portions —one license to be in the. name of Mr Shennan, at a yearly rental of L 44 13s 9d; the other in his own name, at a rental of L 360 6s 3d.—The application was agreed to. The Warden at Lawrence reported on the application of miners at Waitahuna Gully, and recommended that sections 92, 93, and 94, block 5, Waitahuna East, be withdrawn from perpetual leasing, as the land is situated in the main gully, where most of the miners’ residences stand. resolved to give effect to the recommendation. .
