THE IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT.
[Renter's Telegrams.] THE BUDGET. LONDON, April 24. In the House of Commons this afternoon Mr Gladstone introduced his annual Financial Statement. He stated that the revenue was moving sluggishly, and that the income from duties on alcohols was decreasing, while the savings of workmen showed a corresponding surplus. The surplus at the end of the financial year 1880-81 was L 352,000. The revenue for the ensuing year was estimated at L 85,000,000, and the expenditure at L 84,500,000. In view of the surplus thus shown, it is proposed to relieve the present local taxation, and to abolish the annual carriage licenses now levied in Great Britain.
