THE LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Waste Land Board was held to-day. Present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs J. B. Bradshaw, and J. Duncan. Mr John Thompson, on behalf of a few settlers, requested that sections 9, 11, 12, 13. and 14, block 12, Benger District, be opened for selection under the deferred-payment system. The District Land Officer, Clyde, reported that the sections were suitable for farming purposes,—Government recommended to open the sections as applied for. Messrs Gillies, Street, and Hislop, on behalf of the discoverer, made application for a pastoral license of a piece of country on the West Coast between Dusky Sound and Wet Jacket Arm Sound,—Recommended for approval of Governor-in-Council that a pastoral license for ten years of the area applied for be put up to auction. Messrs Gillies, Street, and Hislop, on behalf of William Dockerty, applied for prospecting license for minerals over a piece of country one and a-half mile long by half -a-mile broad, north of Dusky Bay Sound, West Coast.—Prospecting license for twelve months to be granted over area applied for (640 acres) at Id per acre.— The Ohaibman Baid that he wished Mr Dockerty every success, as he was a most enthusiastic explorer. Several applications for deferred-payment lands were considered and dealt with, and a number of applications for agricultural lease were approved. Mr W. Hay requested that the proclamation setting aside section 25, block 9, Warepa District, as deferred-payment land be revoked, and the section opened for sale at 20s per acre. — The Chief Commissioneb reported that this section, with others, had been set aside for deferred payments, but had been found'unsuitable, owing to the rough nature of the country. The other sections had been revoked by proclamation, and offered for sale at 20s per acre, but this one had been reserved, as there was a probability of its being taken up.—The request of the applicant was agreed to; also as to section 26 (abandoned), Applications to transfer deferred-payment licenses under section 65, Land Act, 1877, were approved as follows:—William Donovan to Jeremiah Cassey, section 13, block 1, Otara District; Edwin Ellis to Daniel Clark, Dalton, section 2, block 15, Crookston District.—Public notice of proposed transfer to be given, as required by the Act. The following applications to purchase were recommended for the Governor's approval:— 1,579 c, James Hore, sections 1 and 4, block 16, and sec lon 16, block 7, Maniototo; 1,5800, Silas Hore, sections 2 and 3,b10ck3, Maniototo; 1,7630, James Fraser, section 15, block 1, Budle District; 1.248 c, J. H. Waighth, section 16, block 10, Teviot District. The Warden at Lawrence forwarded for favorable consideration an application by H. J. Andresen to purchase his residence, containing la 3r Bp, section 80, block 4, Table Hill District. —Approved. The District Land Officer forwarded an application by John Hogg to purchase section 74, block 3, and section 63, block 6, Tuapeka West District, being portion of mining reiervo, and recommended that the same be granted.— Apnlicant to be allowed to purchase the land under section 164 of Land Act, the District Land Officer to be appointed appraiser to value same.

Messrs Oonnell and ftioodie, for John Pottenger, requested the decision of the Board on his application to purchase section 21, block 2, Maniototo District, under section 28 of the Land Act, he having complied with the conditions required. —Approved, subject to evidence to consent of runholder. Licenses were ordered to issue for the following lands recently sold by auetion -. —Joseph Bowmar, section 9, block 12. Walpahee; William Bowmar, section 25, same. The Chief Surveyor transmitted plans of blocks 11 and 12, Bankleburn District, with description of land to be dealt with —Tne mode of dealing with the land in question was adjourned till next meeting.
