STRANGE EXCISE FOR POSTPONING A MARRIAGE.
A few days since (says the ' Geelong Advertiser') there was an awkward termination to a projected marriage ceremony, not forty miles from the Wallington. The day had been fixed, and the bride's father, having to attend a funeral on the same day, hastily home in a carriage a pair of "spanking" horses. The bride was dressed for the occasion, btt no bridegroom appeased. After waiting for a period the carriage was driven to ,'the bridegroom's house, and the man who was to be made happy for life was, discovered sitting in his armchair < smoking his pipe in peace. His excuse for not taking the object of his heart's choice to the church was that the banks •were closed, and her could not get the money to pay the marriage expenses. The position of affairs was certainly unpleasant, Sor the parents of the bride had invited many friends to make merry j in the evening. Although the marriage I did not take place, a country dance was I given at the residence of the bride, and j the jilted lady was driven to Geelong, j |and left for Melbourne by train, as if on her maisciage tour. There fs some tafk of tho affair now taking tho shape l of a breach of promise action.
