The amount of revenue received at the Custom/house on goods cleared thia day for consumption was L 756 3s 9d. Mr Thomas Hunter received a telegram from Lyell to-day stating that the crushing of the United Alpine Company's mine realised 1450z of amalgam from the plates. Eighty-two tons of stone were crushed in three days. During; January 883 persons arrived at Port Chalmers. Of these, 161 came from the United Kingdom, 83 from New South Wales, 187 from Victoria, and 2 from Tasmania. The departures were 211; 86 proceeding to the United Kingdom, 62 to New South Wales, 106 to Victoria, and 8 to Tasmania.
