INSPECTION OF MEAT.
TO THB EDITOR. Sib,— Might I ask yon for information for myself aad many others, whether there is such an appointment as meat inspector lor the City, or if the inspector of slaughterhouses sots in that capacity, to overlook the cattle both before and after being killed? During this hot weather, and long before, I have seen meat hawked in every direction, and also sold by auction, that I am convlnoed is far from healthy for human consumption ;in fact, quite green. et, I never see that any of thesi daily dealers in unwholestmo meat ever brought to Court. From what I can leara the inspector of slaughter-heumb’ duty is to see that the yards within the City boundary are kept dean. A vary large quantity of meat killed outside the City arrives in town daily. Who overlooks it to see whether it is healthy or otherwise ? In great numbers of parts is sold cheap meat (if licensed or not, I cannot say) that if seen by an inspector would be condemned as unwholesome food, and the dealers be punished.—l am, etc., A Consumer, North-east Valhy, February 2.
